On Monday, HŽPP confirmed replacement buses for all trains between Rijeka and Plase in both directions. Rail services remain suspended following the freight train derailment near Meja. No firm reopening date has been published.

There is now a clear statement on replacement services

In its daily information for Monday, 12 October, updated at 16:07, HŽ Putnički prijevoz confirms that passengers on all trains on the Rijeka–Plase–Rijeka route are being transported by bus. This provides a general statement covering both directions, rather than just a list of individual Saturday trains.

This information fills the earlier gap in the evidence in our article's Sunday update. However, it does not yet say where the bus for each individual service stops, how transfers are organised or whether special transport requirements can be met. Information about the specific journey is still needed for that.

What is established about the derailment

At 09:25 on 10 October, eleven wagons of a grain-laden Transagent freight train heading towards Rijeka derailed while entering Meja. According to HŽ Infrastruktura, nobody was injured. The infrastructure statement currently checked lists the Plase–Meja section and Meja station as closed.

The reports reviewed contain neither a final explanation of the accident's cause nor a firm date for rail services to resume. The regular timetable alone is therefore no evidence that a train can run over the section again.

Check your own connection before boarding

Ask about the replacement bus stop, intermediate stations served and the onward connection at the end of the bus journey. Have your train number and travel date ready. For bicycles, substantial luggage or a need for accessible boarding, the actual transport arrangements should be explicitly confirmed.

Allow extra time before another train, a ferry or a flight. HŽPP also provides passenger information on +385 1 4724 026; the website lists daily hours of 05 to 23 for this service. This article records Monday's information and does not update automatically.
